Interruptions is a permanent wall installation at the University of Southern Maine.  It is in a campus building that is constructed in the boxy and rectangular style of the fifties.  Because it was devoid of any of the characteristics of the textural and rough landscape of Maine, I decided to build a wall that would emulate those wonderful and unique qualities of the Maine coast.  Here, for the first time, a human figure began to emerge in my work.  The figure is neither male nor female; and inside, the structure of the building blocks of the wall is evident. The other interruption in the surface is a river-like crack running from the top to bottom of the piece.  This crack is narrow and reveals nothing inside, but gives the impression that the piece is in transition, breaking away and changing.
